On Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari and his newly appointed army chief visited police, special forces, and troops in Nigeria’s north-east.
Nigerian authorities are fighting the extreme Islamist group Boko Haram in Maiduguri, Borno state.
According to local media reports, President Buhari’s visit was to review the security situation in the country.
He expressed his delight at the level of cooperation between the agencies in their fight against terrorist groups.
“By pulling together the collective resources and comparative advantages of the Armed Forces and other security agencies, we hope the enemy will now feel the ferocity of our firepower and the weight of our resolve”, Buhari said.
The purpose of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Maiduguri was to commission several projects. According to local media, they comprise 4,000 displaced persons housing units out of a total of 10,000 being built by the Federal Government in Borno, as well as the Senate building of Borno State University in Maiduguri.
The Borno State Vocational Enterprising Institute in Muna, the Government Day Technical Secondary School in Njimtilo, the Dr. Babagana Wakilbe Memorial School, the Abbaganaram Maternal Healthcare Centre, and the Jiddari-Polo road and drainage system are among the other projects to be commissioned.
Nigeria’s military is battling a decade-long Islamic insurgency in the northeast, as well as abduction gangs in the northwest and separatists in the northwest and separatist violence in the southeast.
