In 2021, Nigeria plans to vaccinate as much as 40 percent of its 200 million population against the coronavirus.
Faisal Shuaib, chief executive officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency of Nigeria, said on Thursday, according to Bloomberg, as a first step, Africa’s most populous country expects to receive 100,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the end of January through the Covax initiative. They will be used mainly to vaccinate health care workers.
To help house and distribute the vaccines, the nation has secured the services of private sector players with ultra-cold storage facilities, Shuaib said. The largest economy in Africa is planning to have at least 70% of the population vaccinated by the end of 2022, he said.
