Foreign Minister Sibusiso Moyo of Zimbabwe died on Wednesday, a day after testing positive for Covid-19, George Charamba, Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, said in a statement.

A close member of Moyo’s family also verified the news to Xinhua.

“It’s true my brother. Covid-19. He tested positive yesterday,” said the family member.

As the pandemic struck the country in March 2020, he will become the third government minister to succumb to Covid-19.

In November 2019, the retired army lieutenant-general was the face of the military operation that ousted former President Robert Mugabe and went on to be part of the administration of current President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
