On Monday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi celebrated the progress of an operation to free the giant Ever Provided container ship, which had been stuck in the Suez Canal for nearly a week.
“Today, Egyptians have been successful in putting to an end the crisis of the stranded ship in the Suez Canal, despite the enormous complexity surrounding the process,” Sisi said on Twitter.
However, the chief of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, has yet to confirm the end of rescue operations, having stated early on Monday that efforts to completely free the vessel will resume late in the morning.
After the stern was freed, the ship was pushed to aim “80%” in the right direction, according to the SCA.
President Sisi also said that “Egyptians have proved today that they are still up to the task”.
