On Wednesday, Libyan Airlines celebrated the resumption of flights between two of the most important cities in the region, Tripoli and Benghazi, in an event that mirrored the moves of the nation towards reunification.
The airline saw the arrival of its aircraft from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, to the west, to Benina International Airport in Benghazi, to the east, in the first step towards the unification of the group.
The aircraft, which began its journey from Misrata airport before passing through Mitiga airport, was piloted on its flight to Benghazi by Captain Yahya Kadada, and carried a delegation of officials from the Tripoli administration of Libyan Airlines.
The delegation included members of the board of directors of the company and several directors of departments and offices who met in Benghazi with their colleagues to complete the procedures for integration at the administrative and financial levels.
The Deputy Director of the Libyan Airlines Company in Benghazi, Milad Al-Hajrasi, expressed his satisfaction following the resumption of the flights, noting that this achievement came after the joint efforts of civil aviation staff in the eastern and western regions.
The reunification of the airline business was also praised by Izz Al-Din Al-Mashnoun, the head of the Libyan Holding Company.
Saad Abu Khotwa, the spokesman for the Libyan Airlines Company, said that this link between Libyan cities had been sought by everyone for a long time, and he went on to say that they were overwhelmed at Benina Airport after the people of Benghazi had welcomed them in a very wonderful way.
According to a source, Libyan Airlines’ schedule of domestic and international flights will begin next week.
