Alafarika for Studies and Consultancy is hosting a workshop on “Navigating the African Landscape: Research and Analysis Skills for Local Impact and Global Discourse.” The aim of the workshop is to empower the participants with the essential research and analytical skills needed to deeply understand African affairs, express nuanced perspectives, and meaningfully contribute to local development initiatives and global conversations surrounding the continent.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

1. Understanding Africa: Local Perspectives, Regional Dynamics and Global Intersections

  Lecturer: Abubakar Said Saad, international multimedia, bilingual journalist.

Expected Outcomes: Provides a sophisticated understanding of Africa’s place in the global order, enabling them to identify and analyze complex international relations.

2. Choosing Research-Worthy Topics, Crafting Insightful Analysis, and Academic Referencing

Lecturer: Abubakar Said Saad, international multimedia, bilingual journalist.

Expected Outcomes: Participants will be able to identify clear, relevant, and feasible research topics. They will develop stronger skills in interpreting data, building arguments, and drawing insightful conclusions. Participants will also understand the principles of academic referencing and plagiarism prevention, ensuring their research is ethical and credible. They will feel more confident in embarking on and executing their own research projects.

3. Bridging Research Divides: Ethical Artificial intelligence (AI) in African Contexts

Lecturer: Olawale Patrick Oni, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer, Global Banking School, London, in Partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent.

Expected Outcomes: Participants will develop a nuanced and critical perspective on AI’s role in African development, moving beyond simplistic narratives of “tech solutionism.” They will also be equipped to identify, analyze, and mitigate ethical risks associated with AI in their own research and professional contexts. It will also inspire to contribute to the development and deployment of AI solutions that are equitable, inclusive, and beneficial for African communities.

4. Data for Research and Storytelling: Effective Strategies for African Analysts

Lecturer: Olawale Patrick Oni, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer, Global Banking School, London, in Partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent.

Expected Outcomes: Equips them with practical skills for identifying, accessing, and evaluating relevant data, fostering a more robust approach to their own research endeavors.
